Smart Money Arese is helping young Africans make smarter decisions about finances.

Our woman crush this Wednesday is the Smart Money Wiz, Arese Ugwu.

Arese Ugwu is an entrepreneur and advocate for financial literacy — the founder of Smart Money Africa, a personal finance blog tailored to the African millennial.

She has an M.Sc. in Economic Development from University College London (UCL) and a B.Sc. in Business and Management from Aston Business School, Birmingham. She is also an alumna of the of the Lagos Business School, INSEAD Abu Dhabi and The London School of Business executive education programs.


With a dream to change the African description of poverty, Arese became passionate about educating the present and coming generations about financial literacy. She uses stories an average African can relate to, traditional and new media to reach her audience, navigate Africa’s unique financial landscape, deliver practical knowledge and promote financial liberation.

In 2016, she released her debut book titled ‘The Smart Money Woman – an African girl journey to financial freedom’  which became a bestseller.

Arese also founded Smart Money Travel, a platform under the Smart Money Africa that provides luxury travel packages for less to the average millennial.


In 2015, Arese Ugwu was a finalist for Access Bank’s W Awards for Young Professional of the Year and in 2016, she won Rémy Martin’s Pacesetter award and was nominated for The Future Awards Africa Prize for Education.

Her reputation and skill as a financial wizard has earned her seats on several boards. Arese is currently the Head of Wealth Management at Partnership Investment Finance. She is in charge of building the company’s wealth management division through business development and growing existing customer base. She also serves on the boards of House of Tara International Ltd and The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation as a non-executive director and is an associate member of WIMBIZ (Women in Management Business & Public Service).

She currently hosts Guardian TV's finance show “Your Life, Your Money” and co-hosts “Analyse This” on NdaniTv.
